Jeanne Ann Hergatt

Jeanne Ann “Many Wings” (Blackstone) Hergatt, 59, was called to her Creator on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Jeanne was born November 10, 1966, in Mansfield, Ohio, to James “Jim” Blackstone and Janice “Jenny” Shrock. She graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1984. Jeanne was a member of the East of the River Shawnee and took great pride in preserving and sharing Native history, culture, and tradition. Throughout the years, she contributed to tribal council meetings, gatherings, and events and spent many years teaching and promoting Native history and culture in local schools and organizations. Jeanne had an extraordinary talent for intricate handwork, creating Native jewelry, dreamcatchers, and artifacts with remarkable patience and attention to detail. She was especially known for her dreamcatchers, some astonishingly tiny and delicate, and for the intricate jewelry she created by hand. Her work reflected a level of creativity, patience, and skill that was uniquely her own. Jeanne was exceptionally intelligent and quick-witted, with a sharp mind, a gift for words, and a personality that was difficult to overlook. She could captivate a room and had an uncanny ability to always find a way forward. She was fiery, stubborn, creative, and intense, throwing herself wholeheartedly into whatever captured her interest. Those who knew Jeanne knew that she rarely did anything halfway. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her youngest daughter, Janice “Bruno” Mattox. Jeanne is survived by her parents, James “Jim” Blackstone and Janice “Jenny” Shrock; her stepmother, Connie Blackstone; her daughters, Lia Potts, Brynne (Freed) Morris, Sayah Blakely, and Tamila Blackstone; her sisters, Danielle Salyer and Delletha Marie Blackstone; and her grandchildren, Kairi Cone’ Lucas, Alina Morris, Samiya Brent, Cimara Blakely, Charles Brown, Soriah Blakely, and Jude James Tong. The creativity, knowledge, stories, and traditions Jeanne shared throughout her life remain part of what she leaves behind. Her life was marked by both extraordinary gifts and difficult chapters, and she will be remembered for her tremendous personality, intelligence, and intensity. Above all, Jeanne was entirely and unmistakably herself. Jeanne was cremated, and her ashes have been entrusted to her family. A celebration of her life will be held by her family at a later date. The family has entrusted Small's Funeral Services with the arrangements.
