Mansfield: Nathaniel Mack Jr., 89, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home, after an extended illness. Mack was born July 30, 1928, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Nathaniel Mack and Sophronia Starr-Mack. He made Mansfield his home. He retired from Ohio Brass after many years of service and a member of Providence Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon until his failing health. He leaves to cherish in his memory his sons, Nathaniel (Lena) Mack III, of Alexandria, VA and Daniel (Zebia) Mack, of Sterling, VA; a daughter, Gayla (Mitch) Austin, of Petersburg, VA; stepchildren, Mary (Gregory) Simmons, Tucker, Georgia, Elgean Woods, Smyrna, Georgia, Leroy Guyton, Rose Bounds, and Billy Bounds, all of Mansfield; stepdaughter, Darlene Allen, of Andalusia, AL; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy E. Mack; by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Mack and Joe Mack; a sister, Nellie Davenport. The services will be held Friday, April 13, 2018, at 11 a.m., with one-hour prior calling to the services at Providence Baptist Church, 112 W 6th St., with Dr. Rev. Thomas C. Hunt officiating. Richland County Veteran Burial Squad will conduct a full military honor at the church. The burial will follow at Mansfield Cemetery Assoc., Inc. The family has entrusted Small’s Funeral Services with the arrangements.
